The Brotherhood and Beyond
In the third chapter of the third book, Winston inquires how the party can remain in complete control, and on a quest for total power, if they do not have the ability to shift things like the universe and larger aspects of the world. O'Brien explains how this does not matter because the party controls everyone's mind, the most crucial part of everything, and if needed the party could alter everyone's perception of the universe and the stars.
This idea is really interesting because I feel like it parallels some theories in our world.
Everyone is familiar with UFO stories and people who believe in "crazy conspiracy" theories, from the lizard people who control the universe to the Illuminati and such (I would even group flat earthers in this category). When we think about our perception of reality and its extension to the "supernatural" world, we have largely been told that we have no proof of alien life, supernatural things probably don't exist, etc., etc. Thinking about Winston's situation and the party's control of mind, I wonder if some "conspiracy" theories may be true, but are covered up by the people in power, altering our understanding of what is real.
I am aware of how it sounds and have to admit I am a firm believer in alien life, but comparing our world to Winston's, there are many things the government alters to fit a better track record that we are oblivious to. Some of these come to light, like the big Watergate scandal, and others are ongoing.
Without going too much in-depth, what do you all think of comparing our world to Winston's in this context: Do you think we are similarly in an 'altered' reality of sorts, controlled by the government? Do we truly understand what's "real" vs "fake" in history, events, etc? and lastly, do you think Aliens exist? and if so, do you think they have ever made contact with earth?
I think it's exciting to think about conspiracy theories being real; it makes me feel like we're in a movie. I strongly believe aliens exist, and I know that in 1977, a signal was received translating to the message "Wow!", which is the strongest candidate of aliens contacting us so far.
ReplyDeleteAliens exist. I think they are contacting our pets. My dog will suddenly sit up and stare intently into space like someone's talking to him. I am sure of this.
ReplyDeleteWith so many possibly Earth-like planets in the universe, I definitely think that aliens exist. They may have tried to contact us, but if they have, their technology probably so surpasses ours that we can't pick up their messages.
